July 24th - Part Two - Harbor Cruise.
After the wedding, we all drove down to the Embarcadero to board a boat for a harbor cruise. We were served a great dinner, and there was music and dancing and sightseeing of the harbor at night. We went around the harbor and then under the Coronado Bridge to the south part of the bay, and then back to port. It was a blast watching the kiddies dancing and having a great time. very nice.

December 7th - Park lights contest
They have a lights and decorations contest here at the RV Park every year. An entire row of sites was occupied by an RV group in participation. Don't ask me how it came out. The decorations were very nice and imaginative. We walked through one night to enjoy it. A couple of days later, we caught a great sunset just before the clouds moved in. A guy was on the bay parasailing. he cruised across the bay barely touching the water at times. It sure looked like fun. A couple of days later, a group of people dressed as Santa, a Bear, and the Grinch among others were out walking around. I'm guessing they were the judges.
It's just about time to move to our next location. She's taking an assignment out in Imperial County in the desert. The town is called El Centro. It's close to Calexico and the Salton Sea in the Anza Borrego Desert. It's winter, so it won't be too hot.

September 22nd. Chula Vista
So this is the world in which we have inserted ourselves. The Chula Vista RV resort is a walled in RV and camper resort on the shore on San Diego bay.
We discovered this place last year when our friends France and Francine stayed here while Francine had a contract at Sharp Hospital.
Next door to us, really a part of the resort is a marina and a resort restaurant and pub. It feels different here than Santee Lakes. Between the resort and the bay, is a small park along the shore. It is well kept and pretty. On one end, there is a twenty foot ironwork sculpture of a pelican called "Fisherman". Near the other end of the park is a series of wind vanes that sway and turn to the wind in a delicate dance. Once you get out to the main road, it runs south into Imperial Beach. North, it only goes a short way, but it connects to the far western end of H Street. This is a fairly new construction. To our east, is a large vacant series of lots. There are some remaining concrete pads. This used to be where Rohr Aerospace had it's factory before the industry all but left San Diego. A bicycle path has been put into this area and part of that runs through the vacant area. We are near the center of the commerce area of Chula Vista. Just a ways is the Downtown area which has been going through a revitalization. Or park is only 7 miles from her work. In terms of our house in North Dakota, that would get you all the way down the gravel roads to the town of Petersburg.
We've taken some walks on the beach, done a little geocaching in the area, and begun to explore some taprooms and local breweries.

March 23rd - Mount Soledad
It was Wednesday morning the day before I had to fly out. We went to Ocean Beach for breakfast. A little restaurant called Margarita's serves some great breakfast dishes. I had my usual Texas Benedict. Eggs benedict made with regular bacon, a chipotle hollandaise, and fresh avocado. Laurie had Huevos enchiladas, made with eggs on top of cheese enchiladas/ Incredible as usual.
From there, we drove up Interstate 5 to La Jolla. Specifically, Mount Soledad. The mountain is a state park except for the very top of it which is now owned by a local non-profit group. At the top is a white cross. It has always been a veteran's memorial. In the early 2000s they added stone walls which are adorned with plaques to commemorate servicemen. There is no particular qualification, other than having served. We found one for a man who served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Notable plaques are Gen. Patton, Glenn Miller, Audie Murphey, And a group of twelve, one tells the story that a couple had 11 sons and they all served in the military. There is a plaque for each of the 11. It's beautiful up there. It was windy and a bit chilly from the high ocean breeze. We looked around and sat, and just took it all in.
When we left, we drove down to Chula Vista. This would be our last chance as a couple to see Francine and France. They have a fifth wheel parked by the Chula Vista Marina at the RV park. At the end of H street, and just off the beach of San Diego Harbor.
We had dinner at their site, and then walked to the beach for a beautiful sunset. Once again, I had a view of the hills of Tijuana, but this time it was because we were so close as opposed to just being on top of a mountain. To our north we could see downtown San Diego and the Coronado Bridge.
It was a great day and we had a great time.
