November. The first week

We had a bit of time off this week.  All the time runs together as we blend sightseeing, Geocaching and craft brew so we don't spend all our time sitting in the camper.  One the first, we visited Novo Brazil for the second time.  Our tastes in brew is changing and we're moving towards tripels and quads and away from the stouts.

A couple of days later, we were up in San Marcos where we visited Dos Desperados and then Rip Current.  Desperados was disappointing, but we picked up a geocache there.  Rip Current had a great selection, very friendly people and a great atmosphere.  There was a geocache outside, but it had become too dark to properly locate it.

On the fifth, we got together with Susan and her grandkids for a night adventure of geocaching.  There is a cache called the night of the zombie apocalypse.  You go to the Campus of UCSD in La Jolla, and find at the GZ, a "Zombie Meter" which will play hot/cold with you as you try to find the various waypoints until you make it to the final spot.  The meter has a timer and when time runs out, it declares the zombies have caught you.  We took the kids and made it close to the second waypoint.  They were getting tired and ultimately moved too slow to keep up with the meter.  We had a blast, though, and called it a night.

All in all, we had a fun week.

I have no idea where we were this day, but we seemed to be getting along.

October 25th - Time in IB

We cruised back down to Imperial Beach and walked around.  We walked the beach and then out to the pier.  At the restaurant on the end, they were having a Chamber of Commerce function for the residents to get aquainted.  We attended and ate free snacks and talked to people.  Fun afternoon.

October 4th. A trip to Coronado

One evening, we stopped at Coronado Brewing's taproom in Imperial Beach.  I had a great hamburger there.  On the 4th, we took a ride across the Coronado bridge out to Coronado.  Coronado is not quite an island.  There is a strip of land that runs from Imperial Beach up to Coronado, making the San Diego Bay.  The strip of land is about 10 miles long and is known as the Silver Strand.  Just before the strand widens into Coronado, there is the Naval Submarine station on the ocean front.  The town of Coronado covers half of the "island". The northern end is occupied by North Island Naval Station.  There are three ways to get to the island.  The third is by the Coronado Ferry.  The view as you cross the bridge is spectacular.  The bridge was originally a toll bridge as it was proposed that was to fund the building of the bridge.  Once it was paid off, Local politicians tried to continue the toll, but that was soon ended.

We drove into town and stopped at Coronado Brewing's main shop and restaurant.  The food and drink was great.  After our lunch, we walked down the street to a small par on the bay.  This was the original landing for the Ferry when it carried autos as well as people back before the bridge was built.  Close by is the pier for the current passenger ferry.  We spent some time walking along the bay and even picked up a couple of geocache finds.  There is also a small shopping center at the Ferry Landing that we checked out.  After a bit of walking around, we finally said goodbye to the Island and drove back home across the bridge in rush hour traffic.
